Introduction to our universal CURE Model

The Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) Faculty Modules are designed to guide faculty of all backgrounds (whether new to research mentoring or with years of experience) through every step of integrating authentic research into your courses.

Each module provides:

• Practical tools: fill-in templates, sample assignments, and rubrics.
• Scaffolded steps: from formulating research questions to final student presentations.
• Adaptable supports: resources for varying levels of student preparedness and class size.
• Continuity pathways: connections to programs like CRSP and K-CORE for students who wish to take their research further.

Our goal is to make implementing a CURE accessible, sustainable, and impactful for both faculty and students.

Project Phases at a Glance

• Phase I: Planning (semester prior): select topic, align outcomes with REL, revise syllabus, create class activities and assignment(s), secure IRB/resources, build spreadsheets.
• Phase II: Implementation (semester of CURE): scaffold weekly tasks, manage a single class‑wide database, formative checks.
• Phase III: Evaluation – Scientific Literacy pre/post; rubric‑based grading aligned to Research Experience Levels.
• Phase IV: Dissemination: Student Research Day; optional external abstracts; upload materials to INTREPID Commons.
• Phase V: Sustainability: refine and re‑run; mentor next cohort; identify K‑CORE/CRSP candidates.
